The future is now: Reviving ancient redwoods with Archangel

Deforestation is a massive contributor to the environmental issues our planet is facing. It threatens ecosystems, wildlife, and carbon regulation. The earth was once covered in ancient trees like coastal redwoods and giant sequoias, which were vital to maintaining a stable climate.

Now, with over 98% of old-growth forests already lost, these vital resources are nearly extinct. That’s why at Setmore, we’ve been committed to donating 1% of our revenue to planting trees across the globe, including with the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive (AATA).

This commitment to making a difference and preserving the future of our planet is thanks to each and every Setmore customer.

Giving back — to the planet

You may not have been aware, but Setmore has been committing 1% of its revenue to planting trees worldwide. It’s been part of our mission for quite some time. As a Setmore customer, you’re part of this initiative—a powerful way to feel more connected to our planet.

This is just one of many efforts to be shared to keep you informed about the incredible tree planting happening behind the scenes.

Read on to learn more about one of our newest partners.

Who is Archangel Ancient Tree Archive?

Archangel Ancient Tree Archive (AATA) was co-founded by David Milarch in 2008 with the vision of replanting our planet with the genetics of the world’s ancient forests and key trees. These trees have stood for thousands of years and are essential to the ecosystem; despite this, they remain at risk.

A near-death experience in 1991 changed David’s life forever, and since then, he has been on a mission to propagate the genetics of ancient trees. He envisions ‘living libraries’ of these trees, making reforestation efforts worldwide more accessible and achievable

Because this matters.

Imagine this: over 2 million acres of ancient trees, like coastal redwoods, covering the California coast. In 2025, that is just a dream – only a tiny fraction of this remains.

But through cloning and replanting these old-growth trees, AATA proves that it is possible to replenish our planet with these once formidable giants, contributing to a healthier ecosystem and a more sustainable future.

Planting trees in Balquhidder

Later this year, we’ll be working with David Milarch to plant cloned redwoods and sequoias in our own Balquhidder forest. These trees, once on the brink of extinction, are set to thrive for thousands of years.

Every tree connects us with the planet and serves as a stark reminder of the power we hold in shaping a better climate. The future is ours—let’s act now to preserve the natural world and support a healthier ecosystem.
